About Roisin Hodgson

After I qualified in 1993, I worked in hospitals both on medical and surgical wards, with patients following surgery, stroke, or head injury as well as with those with neurological conditions.  

My work involved assessment and treatment with the goal of helping my patients to regain everyday skills through graded tasks and activity or with the assistance of specialised equipment. I worked with patients following joint replacement, so that they returned home with optimum levels of independence.  In addition, I have worked with clients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis to maximise their function. I have experience of working with people with dementia and their families, helping them to find safe ways of managing tasks in the home.

I ran creative, anxiety management and reminiscence therapy groups when working in the mental health sector in Liverpool and I helped people with acute mental health problems to regain their skills and return home from hospital.  I have an interest in occupational therapy approaches to anxiety, panic and post traumatic stress disorder.

As an occupational therapist working within the Community Learning Disability Team in Hull, I supported my clients to learn everyday skills, such as shopping, cooking, budgeting, independent travel and accessing work and college.  Whilst working in Ireland in a long stay institution, I assisted residents with learning disabilities, obtain the skills to move from the hospital into supported housing.

I worked with the Halifax Occupational Therapy Assessment Service, carrying out assessment for major adaptations (Disabled Facilities Grant) such as wet rooms, extensions, stair lifts and ramps as well as for minor adaptations.  In addition I carried out assessment for bathing and other everyday equipment. I have in-depth experience of seating assessment, both simple and complex. I have worked with reablement, intermediate care, and the housing sector n Halifax, Calderdale assessing and treating patients following discharge from hospital and drawing up care plans for discharge home.  

I have been working as a private occupational therapist since October 2016, working for solicitors (legal aid), insurance companies, case managers, charities and private individuals. I carry out functional assessments and provide treatment to individuals with physical or mental health problems, both at home or in residential and nursing homes.​

I advise on manual handling issues and work with people following trauma, illness or injury. I provide assessment and supporting information to individuals appealing Blue Badge and Personal Independence Payments and provide second opinion reports. I have advised on major adaptation and equipment. I can provide high quality reports for my clients if requested.​

I am DBS checked, registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council and The Royal College of Occupational therapists.
